Trukbite Privacy Policy
Effective date: [date]
Trukbite ("Trukbite", "we", "us") is a phone app that helps people in San Antonio find food trucks, and helps food truck owners tell customers where they are. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Trukbite app and our related services.
The short version:
- You can look around Trukbite without an account.
- We never sell your personal information.
- We never show truck owners where you are. Owners only see totals, like "40 people viewed your truck this week".
- You can delete your account, and the data tied to it, from inside the app at any time.
Information you give us
- Phone number. You sign in with your mobile number and a text code (no passwords). We use it to sign you in and, for truck owners, to contact you about your truck's verification.
- Name. Optional. If you add one, it's shown on your reviews. If you don't, your reviews say "Trukbite customer". Your phone number is never shown publicly.
- Reviews, photos and ratings. Star ratings, written reviews, up to 3 photos per review, and star ratings for individual dishes. These are public.
- Follows and alert settings. Which trucks you follow and how you want to be alerted.
- Reports. If you report a review, we keep the report and your reason.
If you run a truck, we also collect:
- Truck details: name, cuisines, logo, photos, menu, prices, schedule, the spots you park, and any phone number, website or social links you choose to show. These are public.
- Your permit photo and its expiration date. Only the Trukbite team can see your permit. Customers never can.
- Team members. The phone numbers of staff you invite.
Information collected when you use the app
-
Location, only if you allow it. We ask before using it, and you can say no and pick an area of town instead.
- Your phone's location is used on your phone to show nearby trucks and distances.
- If you're signed in, we save a rough location (rounded to about 100 meters) so we can apply your "only alert me about nearby trucks" and "new trucks near me" settings. We replace it as you move; we don't keep a history of where you've been.
- When you view a truck or tap Directions, we record the area you're in, rounded to about 1 kilometer, so the truck owner can see which parts of town their customers come from. Owners only see areas where at least 3 different people viewed the truck, never individual people.
- If you run a truck, "Open here" and "Move here" publish your truck's location on the map while you're open. That's the point of the app.
- Activity on truck pages. When you open a truck's page or tap Directions, Call or a link, we count it so the owner can see how their truck is doing. We use a random ID created on your phone so the same visit isn't counted twice, and, if you're signed in, your account (so we can tell an owner how many followers came after an alert). Owners only ever see totals.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store your phone's push token (an address that lets us send alerts to your phone), and we record which alerts were sent and whether you opened them.
- Basic technical information. Like most apps, our service providers may log things like your device type, operating system, app version and IP address to keep the service running and secure.
We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't build advertising profiles.
How we use information
- To run Trukbite: sign you in, show trucks, menus and schedules, send the alerts you asked for, and save your reviews and follows.
- To give truck owners totals about their truck (views, direction taps, followers, best spots and times), never information that identifies you.
- To verify that trucks are real and permitted, and to remind owners when a permit is about to expire.
- To keep Trukbite safe: review reported content, prevent fake reviews and fake trucks, and fix problems.
- To contact you about your account, like a truck owner's verification result.
Who can see what
- Everyone: truck profiles, menus, schedules, live locations of open trucks, reviews (with your chosen name and photos) and owner replies.
- Truck owners: totals and charts about their own truck. They don't see who viewed or followed them, or anyone's location.
- The Trukbite team: what we need to run and protect the service, including permit photos and reported reviews.
Who we share information with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Trukbite, under contracts that limit how they can use it:
- Supabase: hosts our database, sign-in and file storage.
- Expo: delivers push notifications.
- Google: maps on Android, and delivering notifications to Android phones (Firebase Cloud Messaging). Turning an address into a map location may also use your phone's built-in Google or Apple service.
- Apple: maps and notifications on iPhone.
- [SMS provider, e.g. Twilio]: sends sign-in codes by text.
- [Payment provider, e.g. Stripe]: handles Pro subscription payments for truck owners. We don't see or store full card numbers.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Trukbite (in which case this policy keeps applying to your information).
How long we keep information
- We keep your account information until you delete your account.
- Truck activity totals are kept so owners can see trends over time. When an account is deleted, its link to those totals is removed.
- Alerts in your Alerts tab are kept until you delete your account. [Lawyer: confirm whether to add an automatic cleanup period, e.g. 12 months.]
- Permit photos are kept while the truck is listed, and deleted when the owner deletes the truck or their account.
Your choices
- Location: turn it off any time in your phone's settings. Trukbite still works; you'll pick an area of town instead.
- Notifications: turn them off in your phone's settings, or choose per truck in Alerts → Settings. You can also set quiet hours and a daily limit.
- Your name and reviews: edit or delete them any time in the app.
- Delete your account: Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your name, follows, reviews and photos, dish ratings, alerts and settings. If you're the only owner of a truck, the truck is deleted too.
- Questions or requests: email us at support@trukbite.com. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your information. We'll respond as the law requires.
[Lawyer: review Texas Data Privacy and Security Act applicability and any required "sensitive data" (precise location) consent language, plus the "Do not sell / share" statement.]
Children
Trukbite isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard protections: encrypted connections, access controls so each person can only change their own data, and private storage for permit photos. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect. The effective date at the top always shows the latest version.
